Mouse Slayers Extraordinaire!

Last night, after multiple attempts, April and I caused the demise of two little strangers who had the audacity to move into our house, eat our food, and relieve themselves wherever they pleased.......without even offering to help with rent! These furry little monsters have plagued us for a couple of months now. But today we stand triumphant as these two uninvited guests have left this world forever.

Now some may mock at our fantastic triumph......."Big deal...." they might say, "You killed a couple of small mice.....so what?" But such people would not understand that these are not your common variety field mouse......these were Brooklyn Mice. You see Brooklyn Mice are not your common variety of rodent running around willy-nilly. The Brooklyn Mouse is a cunning creature, who has become expert at evading capture. The Brooklyn Mouse does not have the decency to scour your kitchen for food, quietly, in the middle of the night while all are sleeping. The Brooklyn Mouse will in fact come right out as you're sitting on the couch enjoying a relaxing evening. It will scurry out of its hole and stare you down, daring you to come with your feeble attempts to dispose of it. It will snatch up food quickly from under the kitchen table, only 5 feet away from you......then return to the kitchen with its sinister, little squeaky laugh. The Brooklyn Mouse is quick and agile and even acrobatic. It will carefully climb up the precarious microwave cord to get atop your fridge and wreak havoc on any food that might be there. Ah yes, the Brooklyn Mouse is no ordinary mouse......it is rumored that they are even developing the ability to open tupperware.......what a scary day that would be.

So for some time we have been after these little critters......it took the following to finally outsmart these evil little geniuses:

2 Glue Pad Traps below the stove
1 Glue Pad by the Counter
1 Glue Pad by the Fridge
1 Compartment Trap by the Trash
1 Compartment Trap by the Counter
1 Regular Snap Trap by the Garbage
1 Regular Snap Trap on the Counter

The mice had thus far carefully avoided this set-up. However, the extra cheese and peanut butter was simply too much to resist.......it brought down their defenses. And now they are no more. So while there still may be some skeptics in the crowd, saying "Big Deal.....I have killed an elk, or a bear, or a lion......come back to me when you've gotten something real." I would have to reply, "YOU come back to ME when you've killed a Brooklyn Elk, or a Brooklyn Bear, or a Brooklyn Lion........then I will be impressed."

So, while our triumph may largely go unheralded.....there will be no medals, no badges of courage, no banquets in our honor, not even free t-shirts. Yet, we will go forward with pride in our accomplishment, and confidence we will again triumph against future furry little antagonizers. For they shall remember us always as......Glenn & April, Slayers of Brooklyn Mice!

Glenn, that is hilarious! Let me be the first to congratulate you and April on your spectacular accomplishment! I think you at least deserve a T-Shirt!

oh my! that was hysterical!!! David had the same problem with mice in our garage here in Houston. I guess when you build new neighborhoods in what was once wide open spaces/fields, mice will come invade your garage because it used to be their home. It took glue traps (although once David caught one in this contraption he didn't use them anymore saying they were inhumane) and regular traps to get rid of the whole family. But all is quiet now and has been for a while. They especially like the dog food stored in the garage. My favorite part was David seriously checking the traps each and every morning like he was waiting for the surprise of catching one! what a defeat of these creatures!!!

Hahaha! What makes me laugh most about this is to think how small your kitchen actually is. And you had what--like 8 traps in it?? Mission accomplished and good work!

So funny! We caught a mouse in our garage recently, without our knowledge. That is what having a good Terminex guy can do for you. I didn't even know what the black square things in the corners of our garage where, until, sadly, we saw a little squeaky friend stuck in one of them the other day. At least the mystery of what they where is now solved! But of course, these were just Houston mice. Nothing compared to the Brooklyn variety!! So easlily caught, that it happened without our knowledge! :)

I'm very proud of you :) We have had our share of vole and chipmunk issues here in Michigan (though they only invade the garage) and I have full reverence for rodent-slayers.

Congratulations! What a funny story. I'm glad I don't have to deal with those pesky mice. I do have 2 children that do almost the same things. Can you come and catch them for me? ;)
